Safe (1995)
Directed by: Todd Haynes
Starring: Julianne Moore, Peter Friedman
In Haynes' multi-dimensional dark comedy, housewife Carol White (Moore) develops an allergic reaction to today's everyday chemicals. All the normalcy of her life dissipates until she finds herself seeking assistance at a holistic center in New Mexico. The film explores how those things that we consider modern day conveniences are also modern day contaminents to our society, both literally and figuratively, all while presenting a brilliant parody of the disease movie.
